Reconversion means that FamilyTreeFactory records are converted to a Gedcom file (*.ged) and then converted back to FamilyTreeFactory records. Theoretically, the end result should be identical to the original records. However, this is often not the case for the following reasons:
| • | Preferred given names, married names, marriage data, civil rights municipalities, godparents, witnesses and contact data may be different or missing if different Gedcom Options for coding these fields were used when importing and exporting the Gedcom file. |
| • | The marked >preferred given name< used in FamilyTreeFactory will only retain this marking after reconversion if the option Place preferred given names at front without marking is not used for the first conversion of FamilyTreeFactory records to a Gedcom file. This option would remove this marking. |
| • | The record numbers may be different if any gaps in the FamilyTreeFactory record sequence were present. When converting a Gedcom file to FamilyTreeFactory records, new continuous record numbers starting with 1 are assigned. |
| • | Partner and child numbers may be different. These numbers are specifically assigned in FamilyTreeFactory, whereas the Gedcom standard simply uses the order of references. If gaps were present in the sequence of partner and child numbers in the source family file, they will no longer be present after reconverting. New continuous partner and child numbers starting with 1 are assigned when converting a Gedcom file to FamilyTreeFactory records. |
| • | The date and time entries in the FamilyTreeFactory imprint for the first and last save of a family file are not included when converting to a Gedcom file. This means that they will not be present after a reconversion. |
| • | The title and description from the FamilyTreeFactory imprint must be combined in a Gedcom file. The Gedcom standard only provides space for a single content note. The words "Title: ..." and "Description: ..." are included in the note. When converting a Gedcom file to FamilyTreeFactory records, the original title and/or description in the content note will be separated and written to the corresponding fields in the FamilyTreeFactory imprint. This is only possible if the structure of the content note in the Gedcom file has not been changed with another program. |
