Program Directories

Print this topic Previous pageOne level upNext page

This section explains the roles of the various program directories and lists the directories used in various operating systems and installation locations.

Terms used:

Installation directory: Directory in which the non-editable FamilyTreeFactory program files are installed.
Application data directory: Hidden directory in which the editable FamilyTreeFactory program files are installed. The application data directory is used to save the program's hidden files, meaning the FamilyTreeFactory files that the user normally does not need to deal with. Do not confuse this with the 'My Documents' directory, in which the user saves his/her own personal files such as family files and image files.
'My Documents' directory (under Windows Vista and Windows 7 also called 'Documents'): Directory in which the user saves his/her own personal files. This directory generally exists for every installed user. In this directory FamilyTreeFactory installs the subdirectories FamilyTreeFactory\Image files and FamilyTreeFactory\Document files.
