Descendant trees are used to display the specified number of generations of saved descendants for the primary person that fulfill the specified output criteria (see Treeview Options, Graphic Content tab, Tree structure, Orientation and relatives).
The following description is valid for the orientation of the tree structure Oldest generation at the top.
The primary person is at the top. Partners are displayed in the chronological order to the right of the primary persons or to the right of the primary person's descendants in the generations that follow. If the primary person or a descendant is male, he will be positioned on the left with his wife (or wives) to the right. However, if the primary person or a descendant is female, she will be positioned on the left with her husband (or husbands) to the right. The positions of partners are not based on gender, but rather on the descendant structure. If no partner is saved but a child is present, a person box with the note "Unknown father/mother" will be displayed for the missing parent.
The connection lines to further descendants always come from the partner on the right, regardless of his/her gender. It is not possible for connection lines for descendants to always come from the mother. Otherwise, in cases where the wife is positioned on the left and multiple partnerships with children are present, it would not be possible to determine which of the husbands is the father of a given child. The positions of children are also not based on gender, but rather on the descendant structure.
If multiple relationship statuses are present for a person (due to partnerships between relatives or repeated partnerships between the same partners), the person may be shown more than once within a descendant tree (duplicate). In these cases, you can choose to output cross-references to other duplicates in these person boxes (see Treeview Options, Box Content tab, Output Personal Data). Descendants of these persons are usually only displayed at the duplicate appearing first in the structure. However, you can specify that these descendants be output at each duplicate, resulting in multiple listings for these persons as well (Treeview Options, Graphic Content tab, Tree structure, Orientation and relatives).
