Functions in Print Preview

Print this topic Previous pageOne level upNext page

The Print Preview always appears in a maximized window.

The Help... button opens the Help system for the corresponding topic. The Info... button opens an information window that shows the current settings for the printer, the margins and the paper format. This also indicates how large the person boxes and photos, if any, will be output.

If you hold the mouse over a box, an information window will appear at the mouse position with basic personal data, the record number, the column and row number and the ancestor or descendant number of the box (if any). A note will be displayed if the box is a duplicate. These information windows are only displayed if a box is at least 2 monitor pixels high and wide in Print Preview mode, which is not always the case for very large graphics.

If multiple pages are arranged left-to-right and/or top-to-bottom, the checkbox Page No. will be activated, with which you can output the numbers of each page. Page numbers can be useful if you only want to print certain pages in the Print dialog. If the graphic contains duplicates of person boxes, the checkbox Duplicates will be activated. This will cause the duplicates to be highlighted with color to make them easier to find. The Margins checkbox allows you to view the non-printable margins of the printer, the optional margins from the Treeview Options, Printer Page tab, as well as the outside edge of the graphic.

The coordinates of the current mouse cursor position will be displayed in the window title in mm or inch. This allows you to make approximate measurements.

Left mouse button:

With the left mouse button, you can pick up the optional margins and move them. While moving an optional margin, a small window at the mouse position will show you the current, new value as well as the old value from when Print Preview mode was opened. After releasing the mouse button, the preview will be redrawn to view your results. You can only move the margins so that at least a third of the paper size remains between the optional margins on opposite sides. When you close Print Preview mode, a window will appear to ask if you want to confirm the changed optional margins.

Left mouse button, double-click:

Print Preview mode will be closed and the treeview will be displayed in such a way that the graphic position at which you double-clicked in the print preview is close to the center of the treeview window. If you double-click on a box, it will be selected in the treeview.

Right mouse button (click on a box):

The individual box will be shown in a small window exactly as it appears in the treeview at 100% zoom. This small window can be moved with the left mouse button and closed with the right mouse button. The Esc key also closes this window.

Right mouse button (click outside a box):

This calls up the same information window that you can access by clicking the Info... button.

Note: In Print Preview mode, you may notice that background images are not displayed. This can occur if a large number of adjacent background images from a large image file are set for the background in the Treeview Options, Graphic Content tab. The background is not displayed because the graphics resources of your computer may be strained. In these cases, it makes sense to create a significantly smaller copy of the image file in an editing program, which can then be used in Print Preview mode as the background. For printing, you can reselect the large image file to improve the quality of your print-out. This problem has not been observed for printing.
