Six Steps for the Initial Printout

Print this topic Previous pageOne level upNext page

You can create the first print-out of your graphic in 6 steps:

1. Install FamilyTreeFactory with the setup program FTFsetup.exe and start the program.

2.1 Open the family file Samplefam.fam (File, Open Family File...) or

2.2 Import your own existing Gedcom file (File, Import Gedcom File...) or

2.3 Select File, Create New Family File... and enter data for several persons. You can learn more about how this is done in the section Creating a new family file. Unfortunately, using this option means you will need more than six steps before you can create your first print-out.

3. Select Treeview, Select Primary Person... to select the person for whom the graphic should be created.

4. Select Treeview, Create Ancestor Tree or Create Descendant Tree. This will create your first graphic. You may see the whole treeview or only a part of it, depending on its size. Scroll bars can be used to move around the treeview. This view is called the treeview .

5. Select File, Print Preview and check to see how the graphic looks on the specified standard paper format of your default printer (you may want to adjust the page setup under Treeview Options, Printer Page tab, in the Tools menu and/or the Printer Setup... in the File menu).

6. Close Print Preview mode and select File, Print... from the menu. Your printer should print your first printed graphic. This will include the word DEMO in some places until you have purchased a license for FamilyTreeFactory. To ensure good print quality, make sure to adjust the Settings of your printer in the Print dialog. Fast print modes may not accurately reproduce straight lines.

From every dialog, extensive What's This help can be called up: Click on the small button at the top right, then click on the object in question.

You can right-click almost anywhere to call up a context-sensitive menu or to get more information about an object. Press the Esc key to close dialogs or additional windows. For more information, see Functions in Treeviews, Functions in Print Preview and Functions in Export Preview. You can try everything. Nothing will be saved until you give your OK.

Select Tools, Treeview Options... to experiment with the wide range of configuration options on the different tabs. You can determine the contents and appearance of your treeview here and preview your changes in preview windows. Even if you don't like reading long manuals - have a look inside and take advantage of the tips presented. Despite the intuitive user interface, you won't discover all of the program features on your own.
