Basic procedure:
Start by creating the complete tree and then determine how it could be divided into multiple parts on multiple pages. For this, print out a miniature version of the tree as an overview on one or two Letter format pages and mark the possible partial trees with a pencil. The dividing lines may not cut through horizontal partner connection lines. Only parent/child connection lines can be divided. The persons at the border between two partial trees must be present on both partial trees to show how the trees fit together. This means that you will need to create two dividing lines instead of one for every page break. One line is above the persons at the border and one below. This allows for an overlap of one generation, as required. The resulting pages should be numbered to use the numbers in Free Text Objects as references to the connecting pages.
The connection points between the various pages are the persons in the top and bottom rows of the partial trees. Free Text Objects are placed above and below the boxes for these persons that indicate the number of the page on which the tree is continued.
To show how the tree fits into the complete tree, a miniature overview with no text can be created with the partial tree highlighted. This can be inserted into the partial tree as a Free Image Object. These miniature overviews serve a similar function as those on maps that show the location of a detail area within a larger region. Here are two examples:

Detailed procedure:
1. Create the complete tree and save it as a treeview file *.trv. As described above, determine how the tree can be split into multiple partial trees and assign page numbers to the partial trees. If you want the same box dimensions for all partial trees switch off the Automatic Width/Height function in the Treeview Options, Automatic Width/Height tab, now.
2. Export a miniature overview for each planned partial tree in which the partial tree is highlighted: Treeview menu, Export Miniature Overview.... A wizard will lead you through a few steps. Within the wizard dialog, you can individualize the miniature overviews as you like. Save the miniature overviews (*.emf graphic files) in the directory for image files specified in Program Options, Directories tab.
3. Create the planned partial trees: First reduce the maximum count of generations to be output in the Treeview Options, Graphic Content tab, Tree Structure, to a value that corresponds to the planned partial tree. Close the Treeview Options dialog by clicking OK. In the treeview right-click on the primary person of the planned partial tree and select Ancestor Tree or Descendant Tree.
3.1. Design the graphic to your liking with the standard functions.
3.2. Add a Free Text Object at an appropriate location (if possible, near the title) that indicates the page number of this partial tree, as you determined in Step 1 while planning the divisions of the complete tree. Hold the Ctrl key and draw a rectangle with the mouse at the desired location and select Create Free Text Object.... Name the object and enter the page number, for example "Partial Tree Page 3".
3.3. Add a Free Text Object at every person on a border that refers to the connecting page: Right-click on the box of a person on the border of the partial tree, select Create Text Object 'Continued on Page'... and enter the text "Continued on Page x', where x represents the page number for the connecting page that you determined earlier. The Free Text Object can be modified in the usual ways.
3.4. Add the miniature overview that corresponds to the current partial tree as a Free Image Object: Hold the Ctrl key and draw a rectangle with the mouse at the desired location and select Create Free Image Object.... Name the object and click the button Select Image File... to select the miniature overview that you created in Step 2. You can right-click on the Free Image Object and select the Free Image Object in Original Size function from the context menu; doing this for all partial trees, you get an uniform appearance.
3.5. Save the partial tree as a treeview file *.trv so that you can recreate it later.
3.6. Print out the partial tree or export it as a PDF or graphic file.
3.7. Load the treeview file *.trv that you saved in Step 1 with the complete tree and continue with Step 3 for the next partial tree.
After completing these steps, you will have a complete set of partial trees with continuation marks and miniature overviews that contains the same content as the complete tree, only on smaller pages.
After the creation of the last partial tree do not forget to increase the maximum count of generations to be output in the Treeview Options, Graphic Content tab, Tree Structure, to the usual value of 60.
The optimization of partial trees is explained in chapter Optimization of Partial Trees.
