Note 1: Column and row numbers can only be created if there are at least 2 columns and 2 rows in the tree structure. |
The column and row grid can be marked with Free Text Objects in various ways. Column numbers are always indicated with Arabic numbers from left to right. Row numbers may use Arabic or Roman numbers. With Roman numbers, you can specify either ascending (oldest generation in row I ) or descending (youngest generation in row I ) numbers.
Column numbers are arranged in one or more rows and row numbers are arranged in one or more columns. These can be set as follows:
Column numbers |
Row numbers |
Only top outside |
Only left outside |
Only bottom outside |
Only right outside |
Only top and bottom outside |
Only left and right outside |
Only top inside |
Only left inside |
Only bottom inside |
Only right inside |
Only top and bottom inside |
Only left and right inside |
Top to bottom inside (multiple) |
Left to right inside (multiple) |
Outside means that the Free Text Objects are arranged outside the person box area; the distance between the boxes and the edges of the graphic will be enlarged accordingly.
Inside means that the Free Text Objects are arranged inside the person box area. Positions that are taken up by boxes are left out. The relative width and height positions determine the position of the Free Text Objects in relation to the area taken up by a person box.
Top to bottom inside (multiple) and Left to right inside (multiple) create multiple rows/columns of Free Text Objects to create internal lines of numbering in very large graphics. The maximum interval between rows/columns is specified with the fields Output at least every x rows and Output at least every x columns.
In the Row numbers area, an offset can be specified. This may be necessary so that the row numbers (generation numbers) match those found in other documents. This can be particularly useful for partial trees (see the section Splitting up Large Trees). This must match the settings specified in Treeview Options, Box Content tab, where the offset for chronicle-style ancestor numbers, chronicle-style descendant numbers and cross-references to column and row numbers can be set.
Finally, you can specify the text (font and prefix), a frame and a background.
You can preview different settings by clicking Apply. This will clear any existing column and row numbers and create new ones based on the current settings. If using Text Objects positioned outside the person box area, the graphic margins (distances between the person box area and the outside edges of the graphic) may have been increased. This graphic margins will not be automatically reduced if you change settings. Instead, you will need to reduce the graphic margins manually: Treeview menu, Minimize Graphic Margins or Treeview Options, Graphic Format tab.
Note 2: If the orientation of the tree structure is set to Oldest generation at the bottom, also the row numbers created here go the other way round. Then they do not correspond to the numbers of the column and row grid, which are mentioned in the status bar and used for the positioning of the Free Placeable Text, Image and Geo Objects. |
Note 3: If you select a row number system or a row number offset different from the settings for eventually activated duplicate cross-references in person boxes(Treeview Options dialog, Box Content tab, Output Personal Data), you will get a warning message and the possibility to correct the settings. |
Note 4: The recently used settings for column and row numbers are saved in the currently opened family file and used as pre-settings for new column and row numbers. When resetting the Treeview Options to the factory default settings, also the pre-settings for column and row numbers are reset to the factory default settings. |
