The integrity check includes a chronology check and a gender check, which are configured here.

The chronology check checks, that the date of marriage, date of birth and date of death data fields for all persons are in valid chronological order. This also checks for the minimum age of partners and parents, the maximum length of a mother's pregnancy and the maximum age of a child-bearing mother. These values can be set here. The values 12 years / 10 months / 55 years are appropriate for humans. If FamilyTreeFactory is used for animals, values can be entered here that are appropriate for the species.

The gender check can be set to strict or moderate. The strict gender check is based on the Gedcom standard. This only allows for a single HUSB tag for a male person and a single WIFE tag for a female person. This means that same-gender partnerships cannot be saved in conformity with Gedcom. As users increasingly wish to save same-gender partnerships, FamilyTreeFactory has realized a moderate gender check. This check does not find fault with same-gender partnerships that do not include children.

Note: In addition to the integrity check, the selection of gender check type also affects personal data management and the Gedcom export:

In the Edit Personal Data dialog, the gender of childless partners can be changed with no problems if the moderate gender check is active. When the strict gender check is active, this can only be done if the radio buttons are unlocked.

A Gedcom export is only possible if the integrity check finds no serious structure errors in the family file. If a strict gender check has been selected and the family file contains same-gender partnerships, no Gedcom export can be performed. In these cases, the moderate gender check must be activated before exporting. It should also be ensured that the program receiving the Gedcom file is capable of importing a Gedcom file with same-gender partnerships.
