Here, you can determine whether and how frequently FamilyTreeFactory should search for program updates after starting the program; details can be found in the section Program Update. In addition you can determine whether a family file or Gedcom file, that was open when you last exited the program, will be opened automatically. You can also specify which functions should automatically start after you open a family file.

When you save family files, the entire current treeview (including any Free Image, Text or Geo Objects that you have created) can be automatically saved in a treeview file (*.trv). This allows you to exactly recreate the current treeview at a later time. The treeview file can be named automatically or manually in a dialog. The automatic, short name for the file is made up of the name of the existing family file, an abbreviation for the type of tree (AT for ancestor trees, DT for descendant trees, DTG1, DTG2, DTGG1, DTGG2 for the descendant trees of the grandparents and great-grandparents, DTRT for relatives trees), the record number and the initials of the primary person. For the automatic long name of the file, the name of the primary person is added to the file name. This type of naming leads to a very long file name but is easy to understand, for example: Underlying family file: "Samplefam.fml", treeview file: "Samplefam DT RecNo 1234 Given Name Surname.trv". The names of treeview files created automatically get a language code (for example DE for German) at the end if the output language is not English: "Samplefam DT RecNo 1234 Given Name Surname DE.trv".

You can also specify which events should trigger an automatic treeview update and what should occur when a treeview is updated.
