One application of the commonly-used Select Person dialog is to select the primary person.

In this dialog, you can select a primary person from all existing persons.

Note: If the dialog is opened for other purposes, the persons available for selection may be limited. For example, only persons of female gender are shown when selecting a mother.

The list can be sorted by every existing column by clicking on the column headline. A quick search in the sorting column, highlighted in light yellow, shows the first person whose data match the characters you have entered.

Different personal data can be selected for the content of the last column. Because the list can also be sorted by the last column, simple analyses are possible: For example you can select the place of birth as content and sort by the last column; then all persons with the same place of birth are positioned consecutively.  To the distinction of persons of the same name the date of birth/baptism should be shown in the last column.

Alphabetical sorting of multipart surnames and maiden names is done based on the settings in the Program Options, Basic Configuration tab, based on the spelling or context of the name. This setting can be changed here directly. Details about alphabetical sorting in lists can be found in the Appendix in the section Alphabetical Sorting in Lists.

If you cannot see the entire name because the column is too narrow, hold the mouse over the line to display an information window that contains all important personal data. You can also adjust the column width with the mouse.

Excluded persons are displayed with a light red background. The status excluded can be specified in the Treeview Options, Graphic Content tab by entering the record number. In addition, you can set the status excluded in treeviews (see Functions in treeviews, Right Mouse Button).

Double-click on a line to select a person and exit the dialog. Right-click on a line to open a context-sensitive menu.
