In the multiple lines data fields Occupation and Note output language tags can be used. Output language tags control the output depending on the selected output language. The output language of treeviews is selected in the Treeview Options dialog, Graphic Content tab. The output language of file cards is selected in the Card Index Export Options dialog.
Output language tags contain the name of an output language in brackets. The name must be spelled exactly as listed in the Output Language dropdown lists for selection.
Syntax: [OutputLanguage]
Each output language tag must have one line of the data field of its own; additional text in the same line is not allowed. The first output language tag must be positioned in the first line.
If a data field contains at least one output language tag, outputs will be performed only for output languages, the sections of which exist with an according output language tag. If a data field contains no output language tags, the complete contents will be output for all output languages.
Here is an example for the data field Occupation:

This example will result in the following outputs in person boxes and on file cards:
| • | If the output language English is selected, Engineer in a machine-building company will be output. |
| • | If the output language Deutsch is selected, Ingenieur in einem Maschinenbau-Unternehmen will be output. |
| • | If the output language Italiano is selected, nothing will be output because there is no output language tag [Italiano]. |
During Gedcom export normally the complete contents of the data fields including perhaps existing output language tags will be exported. However, in the Gedcom Options dialog, Export Options tab, you can mark the checkbox Occupation + Note with Output Language Tags, Export only the current output language. With this option marked and with existing output language tags, only the section of the currently selected output language will be exported; the output language tag itself will be suppressed.
Hint: You can use this feature manifoldly, for example: Duplicate the language English to English(2) in the output language file editor. Enter different contents in the data field Note under two output language tags [English] and [English(2)]: Short key words as well as long notes. Now you can select the output by selecting an output language: Only short key words (good for person boxes) or long notes (good for card indexes). |
