Note 1: FamilyTreeFactory uses unique partnership and child numbers, which need to be set on the tab before creating records for the father and mother. This is done with the spinedit controls For the parents, the person is the child no. [x] and The person descends from the father's/mother's partnership no. [x]. These settings can be changed (open father's or mother's record and click on the button Change Order of Partners/Children). The orders of partnerships and children are not based on the order of entry, but rather on the corresponding partner or child number. |
There are two areas on the Father and Mother tab for creating new records for relatives: Father and Mother. This automatically creates the appropriate relationship structure. The Create button in the relationship area allows you to create a new record for relatives after entering a person's surname and given name. To enter the data after clicking on the Create button, the new record is displayed at the Personal Data tab, sub-tab Attributes and Events.
Note 2: If a treeview is shown and a new record for a new person has been created, the new person does not automatically appear in the treeview, even if he/she is expected there according to the relationships. New persons only can appear in a treeview when the treeview is created newly. Only when creating a treeview the relationship structure is found out and represented in the graphic. |
If a record already exists for a relative, the button will no longer be called Create, but rather Edit. Clicking this button displays the relative's record at the first tab, Personal Data, sub-tab Attributes and Events. The navigation buttons with arrows are active and can be used for quick navigation within the relationship structures. This does not navigate to the Attributes and Events sub-tab for the relative's record. Instead, the Father and Mother sub-tab remains in the foreground, allows you to continue navigating with the navigation arrows. However, this navigation method is only useful for scrolling through a short range of records. For large ranges of records, you can use the Select Record... button or the Search for Person in Treeview... function in the Treeview menu.
Note 3: If the output of button hints has been activated in the Program Options, Toolbar tab, also in this dialog hints will be shown for the Create/Edit buttons as well as for the navigation buttons. |
