In the Character set area, the character set used for exporting the Gedcom file needs to be defined. There are different character sets available in the dropdown list: ASCII (DOS code pages 437 and 850), ANSEL, ANSI (Windows code page based on the installed locale), UTF-8 and UNICODE.
The Gedcom standard includes entries for source and target system for data exchange. PAF is the standard application of LDS (1) for personal data management. ANSTFILE stands for Ancestral File and refers to a file given to LDS (1) for inclusion in its family archives. Select Other to enter any other target system that checks this entry when importing the Gedcom file.
If the exported Gedcom file is to be published, it is recommended that you activate data privacy. The rules for person-based data privacy are set in the Program Options on the Data Privacy tab.
If output language tags are used in the personal data, data fields Occupation and Note, normally the complete contents of the data fields will be exported to the Gedcom file. Mark the checkbox Export only [language] if you want to export only the sections with an output language tag, which corresponds to the language selected here. All languages which are contained in the output language file FamilyTreeFactory.lng are available. Details can be found in the section Usage of Output Language Tags.
The status of partnerships is not sufficiently implemented in the Gedcom standard. This allows you to specify how the status is to be exported in a Gedcom file. The option '1 MARR Y' is possible in the Gedcom standard, but for the option Y(es), there is no corresponding No option. This leaves the status unclear. PAF5 recommends that the data field for the marriage date be used to document an unmarried partnership.
In the Target tags for the ID code area, you can specify to which Gedcom tags the contents of the data field ID code should be written. You can mark multiple checkboxes here.
The transliteration function is only active if the Windows code page 1250 (Windows Central European) or code page 1252 (Windows Western) is installed. It deals with characters such as German umlauts, the 'ß' symbol and 'hard' dashes and empty spaces. All characters with a code above 127 (so-called diacritic characters) are replaced with a character with a code below 128. This can help to prepare the data for use on a target system with limited capabilities. However, it generally leads to a loss of information and incorrect spellings.
