The coding of Preferred Given Names, Married Names, doubled Marriage Data, Swiss Civil Rights Municipalities, Godparents, Witnesses and Contact Information is not adequately defined in the Gedcom standard. Different genealogy programs use different codings for these items. To ensure that FamilyTreeFactory is capable of exchanging Gedcom data with as many genealogy programs as possible without losing data, these codings were designed to be flexible.

For easy handling of different adjustments for the data interchange with different genealogy programs, profiles can be used. A profile saves all options. On the Profiles tab, arbitrary many profiles can be saved under names of their own and loaded again later.

Independent from the usage of a profile, the recently used Gedcom Options are saved in the initialization file FamilyTreeFactory.ini and loaded at the next program start again. If an user wants always to work with the same Gedcom Options, the usage of profiles is not required.

Details about Gedcom conversion can be found in the Appendix in the section Details for the Gedcom Conversion.
